I purchased a new laptop for my daughter from Newegg. My son helped her setup the Windows and MS logins. However, no matter what it repeatedly gives an error message when after login that says "you've been signed in with a temporary profile".

I've reset her MS account password and can login just fine via a browser. Windows says it is authentic via Microsoft account. I've run windows update to bring it up to ver 1803 (although recieved a message that some files could not be updated).

There's no bloatware that I can tell other than a courtesy copy of Norton Security.

I have not turned off / uninstalled Norton yet but its the next thing on my list to try. Aside from that, I'm about to just clean the disk and reinstall windows 10 and start from scratch. Any suggestions before I nuke it?

Solution 1 – Perform SFC and DISM scans

Sometimes to fix this problem you need to perform a couple of scans. You can do that easily by following these steps:

    1. Press Windows Key + X to open Win + X menu. Choose Command Prompt (Admin)
      A temporary profile is loaded
    2. When Command Prompt starts, enter sfc /scannow and press Enter to run it.
    3. SFC scan will now start. The scan can take about 15 minutes, so don’t interrupt it.

Once the scan is finished, restart your PC and check if the problem is resolved. If you’re unable to run SFC scan, or if SFC scan doesn’t fix the problem, you’ll need to run DISMscan as well.

You can do that by starting Command Prompt as administrator and running the DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command. The scan can take about 20 minutes, so be patient. If you want, it might be a good idea to perform an SFC scan once again, just in case.

After running both scans, restart your PC and check if the issue is resolved

Solution 2 – Sign in with your password instead of your PIN

If you keep getting You’ve been signed in with a temporary profile message, the problem might be your sign-in method. Many users use a PIN to sign-in to Windows, but that can lead to certain issues. However, you can fix the problem by disabling the PIN sign-in. To do that, follow these steps:

    1. Open the Settings app and go to Accounts section.
Windows 8 stuck in temporary profile
    2. Select Sign-in options. In the right pane, go to PIN section and click the Remove button.
User keeps logging in with temporary profile Windows 7
    3. Enter your account password and click OK.
      A temporary profile is loaded

After doing that, your PIN sign-in will be disabled and problems with temporary profile should be resolved.

Thanks Jack22, I did try both of those.

    I'll try disabling Norton.
