Just here to throw a bit of good natured shade at intel owners. I only got my AMD last week and now it's the daddy Helios 500! It only took 18 months to sort it out, but they got there. B)

Thanks for all the effort of the regulars on here, particularly the fella with the youtube channel. I wouldn't have been brave enough to buy such a rare beast without the accumulated wisdom on here. You must all be delighted, no more questions about sleep and Freesync.

I have a problem with the helios 500, that when I wake it up from sleep mode the image goes crazy because of the forced shutdown, any help?

Perhaps those who like to modify this information will be useful.

For the sake of experimenting on the back side of ssd nvme evo 970, I installed this aluminum radiator like backplate and it fit perfectly. I also bought 4mm and it didn't fit coz touches the laptop body.

Now I bought a copper one 3мм waiting for delivery. Interesting will there be any difference. :)

This doesn't provide any additional cooling when the ssd is under load, the temperature doesn't change.
But the temperature after the load is lowered drops 2 times faster. And an additional minus 2 degrees when idle.

You can count me in on this as well.  Have myself an AMD powered beast!!  I've made many small software tweaks that have brought about amazing results.  The Vega 56 has amazingly IMPROVED with time and IF IT'S SETTINGS are configured correctly, the performance is definitely MUCH better than when the Vega cards originally released...  Recently purchased 2 DIMMs of 32gb of RAM for a 64 GB total, rated to run at 2666, which is unfortunately capped at that speed in the BIOS :(  Still, I'm glad that because I can fit 64gb into one channel, it should make it possible to clock them at 2666mhz without any issues (crossing fingers!) on this system.  I've also got a Killer 1650 wifi upgrade coming as well.  Since the RAM and wifi card would each individually need the heatsink to be removed in order for me to properly install both, I'm going to just do them at the same time.  Hopefully the only time I will have to disassemble this system again will be to upgrade the CPU to a Zen 2 CPU or even a Zen 3...  I'm determined to find a way to get Acer to release a legitimate BIOS update with the updated AGESA code that contain both the RAM optimizations and the compatibility to install a newer version of CPU for the AM4 socket.  If Acer gave me terms that would need to be fulfilled to get the BIOS updates released, I am determined to make it happen.  If there is a price tag involved, I will start saving immediately.  Even if Acer said that they will release it, but not before 2021 or June 2022 or some date, I would be absolutely happy with that (as long as they keep their word and release it when they say they will).  As long as those of us that are privileged to own one of the most amazingly engineered personal computers created in the last 15 - 20 years (possibly more) are given the opportunity to actually achieve its full potential that is currently only kept from being achieved due to software locks.  This "Beast" is so OVER ENGINEERED that its FULLY capable of supporting upgrades that weren't created yet when the "Laptop" was released!! A BIOS update with the code is all that is needed and it will very likely increase it's performance by close to 40% if upgrading to a Zen 2 CPU (factoring in RAM optimizations and settings common for B450 boards with the updates currently) and IF a upgrade for Zen 3 CPU's is made available, it could very possibly give an improvement of up to 80% compared to stock configuration!!  If this is made real, it will undoubtably become a portable computer that will earn a revered and respected status and would no doubt be held as an example of OVERACHIEVING goals set for what the engineering team responsible for designing and creating the AMD version of the system were required to meet.  As it currently exists, the system has a LOT of potential, yet untapped potential to be even up to that probable 80% better performance!!  Personally, I think it would be an EXTREME waste of potential if it's left to NEVER be allowed to actually make full use of what it is fully capable of doing as long as its restraints are removed..  It would no doubt be one of the 5 most powerful "Laptops" in the world at LEAST...

I'm a 2.5 year owner of a Predator 500 and I wouldn't recommend this machine to anyone. There are just too many hardware issues with this mahcine. From day 1, I've never had the T3 nor USB-C ports work as expected (stalling the system during copying) and now after sending in for repairs, the USB-A ports are slow as hell! .And I not can't get my GPU drivers updated.
This machine seems to work well only if you are able to tinker with it and this precludes about 90% of users. Acer should conduct much better R&D before putting out poorly designed/functioning systems.

You want to add the CPU tweaks to Predator Sense itself?

That involves tweaking the script of PSense to allow Overclocking then creating XTU profiles for your CPU and setting PSense to govern them.

The problem with that is Intel has locked the 10th gen (and up) CPUs out of XTU so its no longer possible to use the XTUService PSense utilizes to tweak the TDP etc directly from PSense.

An Alternative is the use Throttlestop to get the same (and more) tweaks that XTU provides.

Unfortunately I do not own a i7-10870H to be able to build and test a Throttlestop setup for you.
I could possibly do a Teamviewer setup to help you get going but unfortunately it wouldn't be the best of the best due to being remote connected it would eat resources making my tweaking not 100% optimal.

Hello everyone, I may have broken the DOWN and LEFT ARROW keys of my PH517 while trying to remove them to clean some unwanted stickyness...

Unfortunately, all the websites I've seen seem to be out of stock for these particular keys ( Europe ). But they do have other keys, so I'm wondering, does someone know if they standard keys ( A B C D .... ) are compatible with the ARROW keys of the keyboard ?

Nammor please open your own thread about it this thread its about a review of the model you shouldnt post anything regarding having issues in here and as far as im aware finding separate keys its really hard they officially dont sell it in separate you will be better and easier buying a full keyboard assembly good luck

Hi. Do you still use this laptop? Have you noticed any issues with PCH chipset temperatures? Or maybe an issue with disconnecting USB devices?

I have a Helios 500 that is going on 4 years old and a Helios 700. When I bought the 700, the 500 was transferred to my office and is now only used as an office computer.

Both of them are great at collecting dust internally. Around a year ago both were starting to overheat so spent a fortune on cans of compressed air to no avail. I then invested in the datavac. duster and the difference in both is amazing.

With the 700 the amount of dust that come out is amazing and the temps after are like a new machine. With the 500, I don't notice as much dust being expelled but the temps still go back to being like a new machine.

The datavac wasn't cheap, but if you live in a dusty area, you may find it will worth the price. Maybe see if you can borrow one and see if it works.
