Mouses not recognizing clicks

Back in December 2017 I got the Acer Aspire E 15 (575G) with the i5 7200U and GeForce 940mx. Decent laptop for what I do but there is a big problem, and that is with any mouse I use, most of the time clicks wouldn't register. Sometimes I would have to click SIX times to register ONE click. I am also using this laptop for 3D Modeling and trying to drag stuff is like hell, as the drag just un-registers and clicks another part that I do not want to click, then messes everything up. I tried to use different USB ports, tried to re-install drivers, and even reset windows to no avail. I have tested the mouses on my old laptops and they seem to work just fine.

Any help on this issue would be great!

Thanks for reading,
Nathan (NathanCE),

    Hi Nathan,
Try the below step for fix

1] Create a new User Account

Sometimes a corrupt user account can create such issues on your computer. Therefore, the simple solution is to create a new User Account.

    2] Run DISM tool

DISM tool is another command-line tool available in Windows computer. You can fix various corrupted system file with the help of this simple and free tool. To run DISM, open Command Prompt with administrator privilege and enter this command:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

It will take a few minutes to check everything and try to fix the problem automatically. Do not close the window if it is taking a long time.

3] Check in Clean Boot State

Perform a Clean Boot and see if the mouse left-clicks button works. If it does, then you will have to manually identify the offending process and see if you can uninstall it.

    4] Uninstall newly install software

If you have recently installed any software or any driver like graphics driver, audio driver, etc. you should try uninstalling that. In many cases, it turned out that the driver or recently installed software was causing the issue. After restarting, check if it is working or not.

IGNORE THE UPPER REPLY! Even in safe mode the error still occurs. Even with different mouses.

I already said that I re-installed all the mouse drivers, and I disabled the touchpad too, to no avail. Could this be a problem with the laptop itself?

    Nathan,

try checking on the mouse properties>Buttons>double click speed> change the Speed of the clicks - if it still doesnt work.. then try to switch the primary and secondary buttons it should work. if it doesnt work it is hardware issue.

Thanks but sadly this isn't helping either. Its like when the computer wants to do this, it wants to do it. Sometimes the problem doesn't occur and sometimes it does. Its been happening more frequently. Should I contact Acer Support about this?

  • I know you're using an external mouse! But you check that in the bios, there is a function for the touchpad; change from advanced to basic and make sure that external mouse clicks are normal after this change!

I would also try a bios update before taking it to the repair center, but it is a process and it may or may not solve your problem!
