Hi everyone,

I recently installed a 500gb m.2 pcie 3x4.0 evo 970 ssd on my laptop. However on Samsung Magician I see that the interface for it is PCIe Gen 3x2. The interface for the stock ssd is the intel ssd, which has a interface of PCIe Gen 3x4. Because of this, my Samsung ssd's read and write is half of what it should be capable of.

Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue? I went into BIOS and did not find any settings to change PCIe settings. Should I swap my ssd's in the laptop so that the Samsung one will get the x4 PCIe ssd slot?

    Hi,
Most of the laptops have only 2 lanes enabled for PCIe for some reason, unfortunately, there are no settings available to alter it in BIOS, so we have to live with it, could you please post the speed benchmark figures here, if it's possible.
    This is mine( Evo960 in a A515-51):

Oh... that was unfortunate to hear... but I understand.

I actually managed to switch out the ssd slots between the stock and my new ssd. Somehow the stock ssd slot supports x4 pcie. I got the new ssd to be in pcie x4 mode, however this resulted in the ssd essentially being unusable, cannot perform performance benchmark on it, any read/write operation on the ssd will crash windows forcing me to force shut down my laptop.

I guess I can only use it in the pcie x2 lane with similar scores as yours, around 1.7k read/1.5k write
