Mouse button problems on 5920 laptop.

I hope someone can move this into the knowledgebase. I could not find this info anywhere on the web....

I got a little gunk into my left mouse button on my laptop (Aspire 5920). It took me forever to figure out how to fix it.

First, you get a thin bladed screwdriver (and do this with the laptop off).

Then, place screwdriver in top right part of left mouse button and leverage the button up a little bit and hold in place with your right forefinger.

Next place the screwdriver (with your left hand) in the top left part of the key and push down and up (there is a tab there), which should get that side to pop up in place with the left side. Now you should be able to hold the button open about a half inch from the top. The bottom will remain latched in place (I could not tell how, so don't force it). Just hold it open like this and shine a flashlight into the part you have opened and you should be able to see inside. If your debris is just gunk you may be able to just blow it out....That plus I used the screw driver to delicately remove any gunk I could get at. The combination of both acts seemed to work. Note that if you get something sticky in there like soda, I suggest a Q-tip soaked in alcohol to clean it, and then dry it with another Q-tip and just wait for it to complete drying.

When done, just push the left side down gently and push the right side over to the left as you push it down too. Then just click a few times on it to make sure it's properly seated.

Note that I had to open it again and blow to get it to finally work......

That's it....no need to open up the entire laptop to get at it.

I hope this helps someone else with similar problems.
