Hi! So I just bought an Acer GN246HL (144hz) panel for my MSI GS60 Ghost Pro (i7-5700HQ, 970M, 1080p Display) and I've been trying to connect it using the Startech dual link DVI to Mini Display port on my laptop. Under the options, it only shows 59hz, 60hz, and 100hz, respectively. 59 and 60hz work perfectly. However when I try the 100hz option, there is a message that floats around my screen saying,"Incorrect cable. Please Use the dual link DVI cable provided with the monitor." As i have a laptop and only have access to a mini display port and HDMI, I cannot do that. I've been looking around and many say that the mini display port should be 144hz compatible as long as it is connected to the dual link DVI. Can anyone offer an explanation on why this will not work? Maybe even a possible solution? I have heard about there being a $100 adapter that would work but i would rather not spend that much money. Also, I was thinking of buying a DVI to display port and adapting it to either HDMI or the Mini Display port. Thoughts?

PS: Not sure which version of HDMI I have. As I have the model with the 1080p display, I am not sure if I have HDMI 1.4 or 1.4b.
