You'll want to disable the read-only attribute from Microsoft Word as shown below. Jack E/NJ

Thanks, Jack, I can unlock the files using the procedure you've noted. However, my problem is that the Aspire system is locking my files that I've created from scratch myself; they are not downloaded files that are locked already. How can I change the Aspire settings to avoid this?

Is this happening only when you create and save a new Word file? Or is it happening in other apps like Notepad & Excel? If other apps are affected try the suggestion in this link https://www.technipages.com/windows-how-to-release-file-lock  Jack E/NJ  PS: Is this happening only on your machine with no other networked machines?

This happens when I've edited an existing Word file and then want to work on it again by opening up Word. It doesn't happen in Excel and I don't use Notepad, and I only use one laptop.

Which version of Microsoft Office? 365Home? Business? An earlier version? A standalone MS Word product? Jack E/NJ

    Word 365 Home

I don't use that version but I suspect one possibility is that you need to unprotect your new document template. Google "word 365 home" "unprotect" with the quotes for suggestions on how to do this. Another possibility is that the temp document files created every time you open a new Word document are somehow not being deleted when you actually close and are done with the document after editing it. I'm not sure if Word 365 Home keeps these temporary files in another default directory or in the same directory the original document resides. But if the temp directory is full with these old temporary files, there might be problems like you're seeing. Jack E/NJ

Here's a link on enabling and disabling protection https://www.petri.com/office-365-tip-restricting-editing-word-2016  The Word template protection would also have to be disabled when creating a new document so the new document can be edited again after it's saved and closed.   Please let us know if you're able to find a resolution because in your case it seems to be a Word365H-specific, not system-wide, issue.
