My Aspire V5 won't wake up from sleep mode unless plugged in

I own an Aspire V5 laptop and am having a problem with getting the laptop to start from sleep mode.   I usually have it charging during the day.  When I stop using, I never power down completely; I just close the laptop so it goes into sleep mode.   Until recently, I would unplug from charging and take to the couch and open the laptop, press the on-button and it would start-up.  Now I can't get it to start-up from sleep mode unless I plug it back in then press on.  Once it starts back up, I can unplug and am fine.  The charge level is also at 100%.   Has anyone else experienced this?  Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix, maybe power settings?

Hi, Sleep mode will save your open documents and programs into memory and puts your computer in a power saving mode. The computer stays on to retain that information in its memory. If the computer loses power suddenly the memory will reset and the information may be lost. As long as the computer has power the information is safely kept in memory.

Hibernation mode is similar to sleep mode in that it saves your open documents and programs, but it saves them onto the hard disk drive. This allows the computer to safely shut down completely, while maintaining the current state of events on your computer.

Hybrid Sleep mode is a combination of the sleep and hibernation modes, in that it will save open documents and programs and store them in both memory and on the hard drive. Hybrid Sleep mode then puts the computer into a low power mode but does not turn the computer off. This feature keeps the information ready for you at a moment’s notice without turning off the machine. Your data will be protected and saved should the computer be turned off, lose battery power, or experience a sudden power disruption.
