I have recently bought an ACER Aspire 5 A-515-51G-89LC. I am getting distortion on all my different headphones (regardless of type/brand etc). It starts off ok and then after a while distortion happens and stays. I did see someone suggest downloading some software. But can't find message anymore. Help please & thanks.

Open Device Mgr. Try ininstalling the Realtek sound drivers. Exit. Reboot and let Windows automatically re-detect and re-install the drivers. Report back with results. Jack E/NJ

Jack E/NJ - thanks for your advice. I have followed your instructions and re-installed Realtek Driver. Got tangled up with Microsoft Driver Support, which I thought was Realtek. Seems to be a con as I paid the money and followed instructions etc and yet after all the work, it still told me that I had downloads to do, which I am sure were the same ones as at the start. It was then that I found it was Microsoft not Realtek and quickly cancelled my subscription. Lesson learnt. No matter. The big test will be to see if I still get distortion or if it is fixed.

Once again, thanks for your advice.

Sorry. Mistype. You want to un-install not ininstall the Realtek driver. So search for "Device Manager" by right clicking the Windows icon on the taskbar. Open Device Manager. Left click on its audio folder. Right click on the Realtek driver. Left click on "un-install" . Exit Device Manager. Then reboot machine. Windows should automatically re-detect the Realtek hardware and re-install the correct driver. Jack E/NJ
