Hi, After disabling the Secure Boot you can change UEFI to Legacy mode.

Secure Boot is a feature designed to prevent malicious software and unauthorized media from loading during the boot process. This option is enabled by default, but can be turned off in UEFI / BIOS.

    1. Completely shut down your computer.
    2. Power on the system. As soon as the first logo screen appears, immediately press F2 to enter the BIOS.
    3. Use the right arrow key to select Security.
    4. Use the down arrow key to highlight Set Supervisor Password and press Enter.
    5. Create a password and press Enter. Retype the password to confirm and press Enter again.
    6. Use the right arrow key to select Boot.
    7. Press the down arrow key to select Secure Boot and press Enter.
    8. With the arrow key, highlight Disabled and press Enter.
    9. Press the F10 key and select Yes to save the changes and exit the BIOS.

You must first save and exit the BIOS menu with the password. Then re-enter the BIOS again using the password. Only then can you disable secure boot. Jack E/NJ

[10:17:08 AM]steve laing: have been on the acer forums but still cant change to legacy
[10:19:57 AM]Kenny: try and put in the administrator password in BIOS then try again.
    [10:20:19 AM]steve laing: done that
[10:20:39 AM]Kenny: and still not able to change,
[10:21:04 AM]steve laing: disabled the secure boot as well
[10:22:42 AM]Kenny: we will then need to book the unit in for repairs
[10:23:39 AM]steve laing: is that expensive, not had it for long

[10:25:13 AM]steve laing: I attached 2 pics of the bios
[10:26:00 AM]steve laing: maybe you can see where I am going wrong
[10:27:36 AM]steve laing: thing is it has windows 10 and I just hate it, so I want to go back to windows 7 which I have an original copy......but it needs legacy to install
[10:27:57 AM]Kenny: then you will need to follow these instructions.
[10:28:05 AM]Kenny: Thank you for contacting Acer Support.

If you are running the original OS that came pre-installed on the unit, you can run the Acer eRecovery Management program, and that will erase all data on the HDD.

    Please follow the below steps.

    1. Make sure your device is off.
    2. Switch on your laptop, and immediately press and hold Alt, and tap F10 continuously.
(This process will trigger the recovery partition).
    3. Once the Acer eRecovery app shows up, click on restore, then Reload unit to factory default settings.

NB: All DATA will be lost.
    [10:29:13 AM]steve laing: okay
[10:29:29 AM]steve laing: then what do I do
[10:30:09 AM]steve laing: did u manage to have a look at the link I sent for the pictures I posted ?
    [10:30:15 AM]Kenny: im trying.
    [10:30:20 AM]steve laing: ok
[10:32:21 AM]Kenny: i saw it if that didnt work like i said it will need to be booked in for repairs,
[10:32:51 AM]steve laing: can I ask what this will cost me ?
[10:34:01 AM]Kenny: i dont know you will get a quote once the unit gets to our repairs centre for assessment
    [10:36:11 AM]steve laing: okay
[10:37:23 AM]steve laing: so did u see the pics ? in case I missed something
[10:42:55 AM]steve laing: are you still there Kenny ?
    [10:43:12 AM]Kenny: yes ..
    [10:43:18 AM]Kenny: are we book,
[10:43:37 AM]steve laing: did you see my pics
[10:43:46 AM]Kenny: are we booking it in
    [10:43:54 AM]Kenny: no pictures no.
[10:44:11 AM]steve laing: can you not access the acer forum ?
[10:46:51 AM]Kenny: i can but cant see the pictures at all.
[10:47:26 AM]steve laing: wait I try and send them on here
    [10:49:56 AM]steve laing: success
[10:51:47 AM]Kenny: as i mentioned unit will need acer to get it repaired for you,
    [10:51:55 AM]Kenny: i see the pictures,
[10:52:00 AM]steve laing: so wot you think of the settings pic
[10:53:22 AM]Kenny: if its disabled you can change it but if that does not work BIOS need update but i wouldn't recommend you do it your self it might fry the mainboard
[10:54:08 AM]steve laing: I have already updated it from v1.07 to v1.10 successfully
[10:54:55 AM]Kenny: ok then definitely needs mainboard replacement.
[10:55:37 AM]steve laing: so is there a way to know if my laptop is still under warranty
[10:56:12 AM]steve laing: as a main board and labour time are not cheap
[10:58:54 AM]Kenny: give me the snid please
    [10:59:06 AM]steve laing: wheres that
    [11:00:31 AM]steve laing: 70702119534
    [11:01:21 AM]Kenny: out of warranty.
    [11:01:35 AM]Kenny: Warranty Exp : 4/29/2018
    [11:02:01 AM]steve laing: oh well
[11:04:03 AM]steve laing: I just scrap it or sell it for spares or repairs, of all the hassle I have gotten through this laptop I wont be buying acer again..... a bad experience all round, lucky the warranty has just ran out
[11:04:43 AM]steve laing: you made my day Kenny.....thanks
    [11:05:16 AM]Kenny: no problem anytime,
[11:07:15 AM]steve laing: really...... that's a great reply..... you like to make people happy, obviously I will be reporting you.......as this is going on your acer forums.....happy customer service
[11:08:29 AM]steve laing: all you focused on was booking it in....as I could fry the board if I tried my self, no interest in helping at all......

Heh-heh. Try switching the Window Boot Mgr to # 1. HDD # 2. DVD # 3. Exit and save. Then re-enter BIOS menu and try to change to Legacy. If still no joy, remove HDD password so it's unfrozen. Jack E/NJ
