Just purchased h277hu monitor and I can't select a higher resolution than 1080p once plugged into macbook pro mid-2010 display port.  My mac is capable of 2560 x 1600 on an external monitor.  Is there a fix? Many thanks!

    Hi there,
This is the cable I have purchased.  I have plugged the standard display port cable that came with the monitor into this cable and the I have put the mini display port into my macbook pro.  This cable I have purchased from Amazon states that it is compatible with macbook pro pre-2016.
    Thanks

    Jas1234uk Change your display resolution

    1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2. Click the Displays icon.
    3. Click Default for display. If you see more than one resolution listed, choose a resolution and refresh rate. If the display turns off when you change resolutions, press the escape key to undo the change.
      displays preferences window

If you can't change the resolution of your display because you can't see an image, restart your Mac in safe mode to reset the display resolution to defaults.

If starting in safe mode doesn't resolve the issue, reset your Mac's NVRAM and SMC to reset the video ports on your Mac to their defaults.

    Check for third-party display software

If your display works only when your Mac is started in safe mode, and you have display-related software installed, check with the software's developer for updates, or try temporarily uninstalling it.

Thanks.  I connected again today and the resolution 2560 x 1440 magically appeared so seems to have resolved itself.
