Hello everyone!

So i just bought an open box laptop from best-buy, and everything seems to work fine except the audio. The laptop stereo system works great but when trying to plug in headphones it gives me problems. I have one pair that when i put it in, it dosen't show that anything is plugged in, but it does work on my other devices. I tried another pair, and they actually seem to work, but in my sound setting im unable to see that there are headphones plugged in. I just want to know why it does not recognize the other pair, and why i'm unable to see that there are headphones plugged in on my sound board.

- i tried updating the driver.

- trying uninstalling it and re installing. (Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.8216_W10x64)

- i tried going to my sound setting, going to play back devices and showing all disabled devices, but nothing seems to come up, only the stereo system.

- I went into the Realtec Audio Manager and tried to unable the audio jack port, but for some reason i do not seem to have such feature.

-It's a SWIFT SF314-52 by acer.

-Currently i have the home edition of windows 10, version 1709 (os build 16299.309).

-Windows 10 came with the pc.

extra info

i tried connecting a Bluetooth headset and everything seems to works fine, even the headphones show up in the play back devices, this is also the same headset that works with the cord, but when plugged with cord it does not show the headset in playback devices.

Thank you guys for taking your time, i'm not really sure how to fix it at this point and any help would be greatly appreciated.

My headphones sometime work the same way. Headphones work fine but the speaker app only shows speakers, not headphones. Then after 15mins or so of listening to the headphones, the speaker suddenly shows headphones are plugged in. I think it's mostly related to the contacts on the headphone plugs not perfectly matching the contacts inside the laptop's headphone jack. As long as the hardware seems to work OK, I don't worry about what the speaker software shows. Jack E/NJ

Possible that the headphone socket is misaligned. There are contacts inside the socket that the plug insertion should open to turn off the internal speakers. Are they still playing with the headset plugged in ?

@padgett In my case, the internal speakers are off when the headphones are in. But the app still doesn't show the headphones are plugged in all the time. Sometimes, yes, after they've been plugged in for awhile --- probably some movement triggers it. I agree it's probably contact related issue. All I care about is the sound comes out the headphones when they're plugged in and out the speakers when they're not. Jack E/NJ
