I have an Acer Tablet with Microsoft OS  10.  I am told I will need the 1709 or I will lose security updates.  I do not want 1709(too many bells and whistles).  Since it appears I must get 1709, I have a memory storage problem.  I am told by the update that I must have at least 9GB, but I only have 4GB of memory.  Microsoft tech suggested Acer may be able to upgrade my storage memory.  Any ideas of how to get around accepting 1709 and still receive security updates?  Failing that, how do I gain more storage?

It depends, you can add an external storage for your issue, however it depends on your perspective. This will work for you.

Wading through all that does take a while. :) The key is adding storage to your system by inserting an SD card and then running a script that links the normal folder to a folder on the card. Here's the relevant info:
    Question
    1. You have to stop Windows Service
    2. You may have to stop BITS (optional if just stopping Windows Service does not work)
    3. Deletes the "SoftwareDistribution" folder and all contents within
    4. Creates a "SoftwareDistribution" folder on the D: Drive
    5. Makes a soft Junction on C:\Windows\ from "SoftwareDistribution" to D:\SoftwareDistribution
    6. Starts up Windows Service and BITS
    net stop wuauserv
    net stop bits
    if exist C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution rmdir /S /Q C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
    rmdir /S /Q D:\SoftwareDistribution
if not exist D:\SoftwareDistribution mkdir D:\SoftwareDistribution
    CD /D C:\Windows
    mklink /J SoftwareDistribution D:\SoftwareDistribution
    net start wuauserv
    net start bits
Note that at least one person had to tweak the ownership and permissions on the folder created in their SD card or else they'd get errors when trying to update. The script will have to be run as an administrator and the SD card has to stay in your system at all times or else Windows will complain.

    I still am barely
computer literate.  I do not understand bits, software distribution, etc.  All I know is that the computer is like my car. I turn it on and it goes.

Probably best if you can find a local technician to do the process for you then. Have them undo it afterwards so you won't have anything non-stock when you get it back.
