Bought from Argos for daughter for schoolwork. From day 1, it has been shockingly slow, to the point where you cannot run more than 1 app at a time. for example, almost all apps try to open, then show the 'not responding' message in title bar. Waiting sometimes helps and they open, but just as often just freezes and I have to shut it down via Task Manager. I finally gave in and did a complete reinstall. It took 36 hours! It also picked up another problem - it got stuck on desktop, windows menu etc not working. After a bit of poking around, it finally seems to be loading properly.

I have never had a laptop with less than 8GB, so have no idea if this slowness is normal for a 4GB machine. The research I did before buying it seemed to indicate that for 'normal' use, the difference would not be very noticeable. I gave in and bought a new Acer 8GB which performs reasonably well. Not super speedy, but usable.
Is it a problem that can be solved? I am not particularly pc literate, but can follow instructions if simple and clear!

Should I send it to Acer for repair, throw it away or use it as a door stop?

    Hi @Janinelc

Click the Start button, type “msconfig” and press the “Enter” key to launch the System Configuration screen. Navigate to the “Start Up” tab and remove the check in the box next to every item you don’t need running on your laptop. When you reboot your laptop, only the selected programs will start up, freeing up resources on your machine.

Try to download and install a well known virus scan program (like McAfee) and run it to make sure there aren't any obvious viruses on your computer. I would recommend uninstalling the program when you are done too, because they tend to take a fair amount of resources themselves.

If these don't work, you may try a full re-install of your windows operating syste, using Acer internal recovery.

You can also contact Acer support in your region to check for options to fix the issue.
