My Predator 17's screen is glitching out weirdly

So I've owned this 64GB Predator 17 for roughly a year now, and It's been really fine except for the screen. Ever since I bought it there was a slight red spot on the screen that'd only show up on dark backgrounds, but I thought that it wasn't really worth replacing over. But now my screen's doing something weird, every time I move the lid the screen just flickers oddly such as pic related and the lid's hinges also make this weird, slight cracking noise. What should I do? Do I send it in for repairs? I'm not really willing to find out the price tag for the repairs of a 4K screen, so I want to see other options first.

If the screen flickering happens only when you open/close the lid, then most likely the problem is loose connection not the display itself. The reason why you see a the red spot(I assume it is around the centre of the screen) on dark backgrounds is because of the LED illuminating the logo at the back. Most likely the reason for this is that the LED/s aren't isolated well.

    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Reseat the LCD ribbon cable connectors at both ends a few times to clean and tighten their contacts. If that doesn't resolve the issue, conductor traces on the ribbon are probably fatigued/cracked in the hinge area from wear and tear of opening/closing the lid too much. The remedy is of course a new LCD flex ribbon cable. Not that expensive. Jack E/NJ

Thank you everyone! Do you guys think this would be a risky job for someone like me? I'm totally inexperienced with computers and wiring, but I'd also be willing to take this to a professional repair shop if need be.

Google your "ACER model number" "disassembly" "screen replacement" with the quotes to get a rough idea of what you'll be up against. The biggest issue will probably be controlling your fear of breaking something in trying to separate the plastic bezel & covers after screws have been removed. Because a few plastic retaining clips probably will break off the covers. But nothing a few strips of color-coordinated duct tape can't fix if needed. =) Jack E/NJ
