I just bought this model: A515-51-58D3. There are no specs for it on the acer website!

I assume like the other A515 models it has a M2 slot on the motherboard for a SSD. The external drive compartment has a 1 tb mechanical drive.

I want to buy a 256gb m2 ssd... can I choose any model or are there restrictions?

There are no restrictions for SSD, except that the M.2 port is with SATA interface. This means you can still install NVMe SSD, but it will work at SATA 3 speeds, so it is better to look for M.2 sata ssds as they are cheaper.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.
