Cracked screen

I bought the cb3 Chromebook for my daughter's schoolwork and the screen pixelised (cracked) a week later. I called customer service but they were not helpful at all, saying that physical damage is not covered and repair costs are prohibitive. You see, the problem is that other than just opening and closing the book, there was no other pressure applied to the lid and it was not even used by my children yet. So I wonder if others have experienced similar problems. Needless to say, based on my experience to- date this is the first and last Acer I would ever buy.

Does the box show any sign of damage ? Is possible the crack began before you received it. Did you purchase from a store or was it mail order ? In either case it may have started after it left Acer. I would return it where it was purchased.

Thanks for your suggestion. I bought it from Argos. I regret not buying insurance, I foolishly thought the warranty will cover any defects.

Acer has standard manufacturer warranty which will not cover the damage.

Unfortunately Argos considered it "wear & tear".  Rather poor service for £159.99 or more.  It's really not difficult to replace the screen yourself, as shown in this videos:
Screen replacement for my Acer C710-2847 was exactly the same.  It took about 30 minutes, only because of a great deal of caution.  Place a protective covering between the screen & keyboard to avoid scratches.  The parts number should be on the back of the screen, after removing the bezel & 4 screws. The screws are tiny, so place them in a cup to prevent a search on the floor.  Amazon has a replacement for £30.20.  The sense of accomplishment will more than make up for the sense of loss.
