It is not recommended to use old ram in another computer system of any age.

    The technical reason(s) for this..
Is that the oils in the microchips create oil patterns as they are used and they are formed based on that particular PCs usage.

One you take that component out of an older laptop the oils cannot reconform to the new hardware and premature failure/issues arise more frequently.

It is always recommended to use new ram when upgrading a computer and not to purchased used for use.

Additionally be sure that the size of the ram (When you find one to upgrade with) matches in size, speed, cas latency and voltage.

The reason the ram must be the same size is to take advanage of the dual channels of the laptop.

I need more information like the amount of ram currently on your system(single or 2 Ram modules). Is the RAM from the old laptop DDR4, because your laptop accepts DDR4 only? Also what is the latency and frequency of the RAM from your old laptop?
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.
