I have a computer of the model listed in the question line. OS is Windows 10 and is up to date.
The problem started February 21. During an assignment for a law class I was using this computer. I needed to edit the piece I was working on, so I touched the touchscreen. The pointer would not change position. I tried touching other sections of the screen, but my touches had no effect on anything on the screen. My touch screen had lost it's ability to feel my touch.
I tried using with the mouse. That's when I discovered the mouse wasn't working either. I turned it off, then turned it back on again. No change: mouse did not have an effect on the pointer icon. I changed the batteries. No effect.  I removed the dongle from the USB 2.0 port and tried using the mouse in another computer. The mouse worked normally on the other computer.
I tried using another USB port on the Aspire. No improvement.
Obviously the mouse wasn't the problem, either.
I used the touchpad below the keyboard. That worked. I opened the MS Device Manager window and found the Human Interface Devices section. I clicked on every HID-compliant device that applied. Nothing was amiss: no yellow triangles, and all drivers were up to date.
I tried powering down the Aspire using the physical power button on the device. When it was off I even removed the battery, then reinstalled the battery and powered on the device. MS Windows 10 updated and so forth.
The touchscreen and the mouse still would not work.
I tried clicking the Home screen power button using the touch pad. Same result: touch screen and mouse still will not work.
I tried using a different mouse. None of my three mouses would work.
I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the mouse. Mouse would not work.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the touchscreen, or at least what I thought was the touchscreen (it's not labeled touchscreen: it's labeled "HID-compliant device"). No joy.
What have I not tried yet? Any suggestions?
