Dual Monitor to Laptop with VGA-to-USB connector not working

I have two Acer new monitors.  Because of limited docks on my laptop (Lenovo), I connected one monitor via HDMI cables from monitor to laptop.  The other I am trying to connect via the provided VGA cord, and a VGA-to-USB adapter (1080p resolution).  The second monitor is not getting a signal. When I switch cords, the monitor does work.  I have read other posts about BIOS and Optimus, but I am not at that level of technical know-how.  If someone could help walk me through perhaps a driver I need, or a new display setting, I would appreciate.

Without knowing what adapter you have can only guess but have you tried the drivers from displaylink.com ?

Can right click on a vacant area of a display and select "Display Settings". That should show all monitors Windows knows about.
