Problems resetting Acer ES 15

When my ES 5 Laptop was restarting after updates it went to the Automatic Repair page, but after a long time 'preparing automatic repair'  a message came up that it had failed:

This happened several times so I then decided to reset it (Alt  F10).  As there is virtually nothing of importance on the laptop (everything backed up) I tried both options several times, but each time I get a message saying that it failed to Reset.

Unfortunately the 1 year guarantee expired in last week of January. How can I completely reset the laptop? I see offers for Windows 10 CDs being offered (I have an external CD drive), should these work?  Is something available from Acer?

Many thanks

  • Hi,
Have you created new partitions? You need to keep the partitions as they were originally came for the Alt+F10 to work, if it doesn't work, you can get a recovery media from Acer for your model.

    Hi brummyfan2,
Thanks for the quick response. I followed the link (Acer site based in the US)typed in my SN and then the SNID, but told that neither were recognised.  I copied the SN and pasted it into the UK site and it was recognised? I tried to find the recovery media on the UK site but no joy, but then found the option to email their Tech Support. I'll wait and see what they have to say.

The laptop was not tampered with (partition-wise). Luckily shortly after buying this one I bought another one (a Lenovo) as I was so disappointed with the Acer; after downloading Bitdefender on Day 1 (and no other progs other than Office) the Acer's performance plummeted, and it ran so slowly and nothing seemed to sort it out.

    Many thanks again
  • Hi Derbyman,
No problem, you could also try contacting Acer Support centre by phone( Link), I would suggest you to stay away from third party AV programs for the time being because they consume a lot of resources and very intrusive, you can install them latter on once you sort out the responsiveness, also please consider switching to SSD from HDD as it will speed up the laptop immensely.
