Connecting HDMI and DP at the same time to a single minitor won't damage anything, but note that only one connection can work at a time. You will be able to switch between HDMI and DP when you like, but it won't improve your image quality or make the refresh rate go higher etc. To be able to transfer 200Hz at the native resolution(2560x1080) you need the DisplayPort port. HDMI 2.0 supports up to 144Hz at 2560x1080.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.
