I want to delete most of the factory apps. how do I do this? Iconia w510

i barely have any memory out of a 32gb capacity..... and only have maybe 10gb left... havent even done anything. how do i delete the factory apps that i dont want?

Most of the space is used by MS Office and windows takes a few gigs also.

Hi, Kiwipeso is advising against that because you will not gain very much space.

 

I just got a W3 and did do it just to clear the screen.

In WIN8- get to the START SCREEN, swipe up from bottom of screen. You should get one icon in lower right "All Apps".

 

Press that icon and you will see All of the apps installed. Drag any app you don't want down to the bottom of screen. This should pop up an uninstall box. Just keep going. Some took me several trys at dragging them down. Be carefull not to uninstall some thing you may need.

If you know how to hook up a mouse, right click on the tile then left click uninstsall.  I did this on my iconia w3 tablet and it didnt help much.

Yeah, the apps really don't take up space...

Just a quick thought. The reason it does not save much space is the basic difference between programs and apps. I as understand it, apps rely on the internet for storage rather than local HD. Like we push storage to a USB drive.

Not completely true, since most apps will run without an internet connection... Though they may not actually *do* anything. :-) The app itself is stored locally (my system currently is using between 4-5GB of storage, I have 67 Apps loaded) and data for the app is mostly stored locally, but in a different directory.

not that i'm advising it but Acer jas its own apps on there along with that 5 finger touch ring application pretty sire that mictbtake ip some room. I mean you can delete away you can always get it back via recovery

Hi again Billsey, I was thinking that an app was not much more than a link to online services and that was why they are small compared to a stand alone program.

Like I can install a Bible or game program on WIN8. Or I can install a Bible or game app. The programs are entirely on my machine and operate without the internet but the apps not so much. The apps require online resources that were not installed locally. Do you have apps that function locally without the internet?

There are three basic types of Windows 8 apps; Web based apps that are created using HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript; precompiled apps using XAML and a language like C#, C++ or Visual Basic; and precompiled apps using DirectX and a language such as C++. The first type pretty much requires an internet connection since it's basically just a web page. The second type can use an internet connection but might have portions that run fine without since it's a mix of web content and local content. The third type can use the internet but doesn't require it for the application, only for data passing such as high score comparisons.

 

An example of an app that matches the third type is Microsoft Minesweeper. It will run fine without an internet connection, but if you want to play one of the Daily Challenges or compare and share your scores with your friends you need the internet connection.
