I get a "no bootable device" message when I try and power on my Acer aspire R 13. I have checked the bios and there is no hard disk name. Any thoughts?

You can try resetting the battery. Disconnect from AC adapter, make sure the device is turned off and follow the instructions.

If it doesn't help, then it could be that the HDD is dead or it is disconnected from the connector(not completely moved out from the connector. A little movement may break the connection). You can try opening the cover where the HDD is and re-connect or contact Acer support. If you are planning to do it and it doesn't help, you should contact Acer.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Alternative is to see if the recovery partition can open. Hold alt-F10 and boot.
