acer aspire switch 12 s weird screen fragility?

I am not quite sure how or when, but when I finally looked at my screen from the right angle and light, I saw it developed its first top-bottom crack, on the right side. In fact I was at an airbnb when this happened and for a moment I thought my hosts were to blame, but quickly realized the laptop  has been within eyesight for all my stay. I was wondering if I bumped it when it was closed, but eventually I tried to hold it from the middle of the screen, the middle of the sticker actually, and I think I got some answers back, as another top down crack developed from the point where my 2 fingers pinched it. I made a mental note never to touch that are again, but forgot at some stage and now the left part of the screen is nearly shattered. That is not at all what I expected from a Gorilla Glass screen, I believe that's what the specs say. Could this somehow have been a factory fault? Could I have damaged the area under the sticker at some point in time, and then simply suffer the rest of a domino effect?

If any reusable wisdom is hiding here, it is "remove the bloody stickers"
