GPU Upgrade

I have a Predator 15 with a nvidia GTX 970m GPU. Is it possible to upgrade the GPU to a faster one like the 1050? Editing 4K video is a problem with the 970M so I am wondering if this would work. Thanks.

no, GPU is soldered to mainboard.

You can add an external GPU, using the Thunderbolt port.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

You need something like this, usb-c thunderbolt cable and of course the desktop GPU. The problem is that the GPU will have some performance loss(usually between 20-30%).

I don't see a reason why you would want to add a 1050(i read 1050ti in your post the first time, but it was just my assumtion I think), as 970M performs better than 1050 in gaming and benchmarks. I see you wrote that it is for video editing, in which 1050 performs a bit better, but these 20% loss via thunderbolt will bring it under 970M's performance. If you want the external GPU to perform better than the dedicated GPU in your laptop, you have to aim for something higher like GTX1060 or better. GTX1050ti(connected to thunderbolt) will be at about the same level as the 970M.

OK, thanks for all the info. I had no idea this was possible but I think I will stay with what I have for now until I can afford a better computer. I need gaming and 4K editing capability but also in the laptop configuration.
