A couple of years ago my 10" tablet got broken and was replaced with a 7" which I've never been comfortable with as it doesn't hold a charge for long so I use it mostly as an ereader and a few games.Last night however it turned off  and there's no action at all when holding the on/off button, that's why the question.I'm tech challenged at the best of times so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Depends on what you mean by 'information'. A reset will wipe the tablet back to the original defaults, but most of your data (apps, pictures, music etc.) normally is backed up to Google. Those will be restored after the wipe when you first log into your Google account. App data, such as saved games, typically is not backed up and will not be restored.

Before you do the factory reset though go through a few steps to make sure a reset will help. Verify that the tablet is fully charged, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to verify the tablet isn't just stuck in a sleep mode, boot to recovery mode to verify it's still bootable. If the battery is discharged and the charger isn't working you'll see these symptoms. If it's stuck in sleep mode you have to fully power off and then it'll typically boot back up normally. If you can't boot into recovery mode you won't be able to reset.

Let us know how that goes and write down any other symptoms or errors you see so we can help diagnose it more if needed.
