I try to connect an external display to my USB-c connector with a Startech usb-c to DVI  connector, but the display is not detected. Thunderbolt is installed (16.3.59.2_W10x64_A) and I have applied the latest bios upgrade (1.06_A_A). I have tried the same display connected to the HDMI port and that works without a problem. Has someone tried to connect the usb-c to DVI? Is there a known problem? Are there special settings you have to set to make it work?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it will not work with an USB-c dock but only with a USB3.1 gen2 - DP cable.

I'm not using a dock, I'm not using a DP cable, I have a USB-c to DVI connector to which a DVI cable to my display is connected. That should work because the USB-c connector on the Acer laptop supports alt-mode and I have Thunderbolt 3 up and running. I know that a DP cable should work, but the display only has VGA and DVI. I know a HDMI cable should work to but my display has no HDMI port. This is what they say about the adapter:
This USB-C™ to DVI adapter lets you output DVI video from a USB Type-C™ device such as a MacBook, Chromebook™ or Dell XPS™ laptop. The adapter works with USB-C devices that pass a DisplayPort video signal and it’s also compatible with Thunderbolt™ 3 ports.
So my quetion remains: is there someone who knows something about issues with the Acer Displayport?
