Aspire 7736zg : blank screen on wakeup from hibernate

My wife has had this laptop for over 5 years now (purchased new).
Recently, when restarting the system from a hibernate mode, we are getting a blank screen and nothing else happens.
The only way to get the system to start correctly is to do a forced reboot by holding the power button down.

I have run anti-virus and check disk to no avail.
It would appear that all drivers are upto date as well.

Short of reinstalling windows 7 - which it is not sure that this would solve the problem - what else can be done to correct this, please ?

Hi,
You could try a battery reset, switch off the laptop, disconnect from mains, remove the battery, press Power button for 30 Secs, leave the laptop to rest for 15-20 mins and try starting again.
