Hello. I upgraded the processor, put in a new fan, and added an extra gig of RAM and made sure to put everything back to the way it was. Now the wi-fi isn't working. What could be the cause? Tose white and black wires on the back? I put those back to where they were. The black on top and the white on the bottom. Sigh.

    Hi Derrell,

Can you please confirm if your Wifi option is visible and enabled in task tray but at a disconnected state or whether the entire wireless network adapter is not detected by the device?

The entire wireless network adapter is not detected by the device.

    Hi Derrell,

If so then open Command prompt by Pressing Windows key + R, then type "cmd" and click "Ok".
In command prompt, type "ipconfig /all" and press enter.
Try to identify if the wireless network adapter details are available in the result.

Also, visit device manager by pressing Windows key + R, then type "devmgmt.msc" and click "Ok".
Check if wireless network adapter details are avail under the "Network Adapter" settings.

These steps will ensure whether the issue is detected properly or not.

Also, one more suggestion to try detecting the wireless network adapter would be to restoring BIOS defaults.

Ok. I tried to post pictures but it says I have to be around loner than that. Here is the link to the pics:

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the two pictures of the cmd and device manager.

I honestly wonder if I inadvertently damaged the wi-fi chip while I was trying to reconnect the black and white wires.

Ok. I took everything back apart and carefully put it back together and now the wi-fi is working. But I doubt that's why. I removed the wi-fi module and cleaned the pins with a q-tip and alcohol and I believe that fixed it.

For this specific laptop (Acer 5736Z-4460), is the max RAM 4 GB or 8 GB?
