G3-572 GPU overclocking

Hi,

I got the G3-572 yesterday (i7-7700HQ, gtx 1060 6gb vram and 16gb system ram installed), I swapped out the 1tb hdd for a 1tb SSD (expensive but the speeds are amazing). I realize this model has the aeroblade fans. I also have XTU in case I need to undervolt (haven't had a chance to game yet).

However, in the predator sense app I saw that there is an option to set the speed of the graphics card. If I am limiting the frames of the games to 60fps (since the screen refresh rate is 60Hz anyway) on ultra for BF1 for example to reduce CPU temperature (i also have a cooling pad), would it be necessary to overclock the GPU? Can BF1 run on ultra averaging 60fps on the default GPU speed? Sorry, probably a silly question, but I am coming from a PS4 pro.

Would it be recommended to keep vsync on or off to keep cpu temps lower?

I just want to increase the longevity of the laptop as much as possible. Thanks!  :)

  • I do not play BF1, but if you play the game and it runs fine without the overclock, then there is no need to overclock. Your clues will be game performance when you actually play the games. Overclocking really only provides a minor speed improvement (up to 14%, so you may only get a 1-2% improvement in a game, but +5C hotter temps). It is more of a feature for advertising.

Concerning VSync and temps, having VSync enabled only improves temperatures by minor amounts as well. I recommend keeping VSync enabled but your choice will be game performance when you actually play the games. Some people find that its necessary to turn VSync off due to input lag. However, I have never experienced input lag due to VSync. Look at the sticky post I have, and try testing with VSync enabled, and enable Triple Buffering before turning off Vsync.
