Cannot play at 1080p

I apologize in advance for my concerns may be annoying to seasoned PC gamers, however, I recently switched from console to Windows gaming and I have been bugged by not being able to get the quality that I expected from my Predator 17x GX-791 that runs on Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.60GHz, NVIDIA GeForce 980M, 16GB RAM and a display of 1920 x 1080 x 75Hz.

I am currently stuck playing Nier: Automata at 1366 x 760 resolution on high graphics settings at 30fps. The fps rate bumps up to 60fps upon GeForce Experience optimization, though, but is still on 760p. Could this be the ceiling as to what this machine can offer? Can I really not run games on 1080p despite my monitor's native resolution at 1080p? Or does it depend on the game that I am playing?

Thanks in advance for shedding some light on these.

GTX 980 is the recommended requirement for GPU, so you should be able to run the game at 1080p 60fps most of the time. I suggest you to turn off or uninstall GeForce experience and adjust the graphics to max from the game settings. You can also set to 'Turbo' preset from Predator Sense, which will boost your performance with about 12%. Report back the result.

The fps depends on the game you are playing. Mostly all games support 1080p resolution
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

I uninstalled GeForce experience as you suggested and increased my GPU Clock Offset to +56 and Memory Clock Offset to +250 through EVGA and it worked like a charm. Thank you for your help!
