I have tried all manner of things so far, but I still have no response from the touchpad.
So far, I've tried;
1. Tried the Fn +F7 suggestion
2. Have tried F2 when re-booting, but there is no 'Touchpad' option in the 'Main' section
3. Plugging in a mouse to see if this re-installs a driver
4. Installing any updates that appear vaguely relevant from the Acer drives and BIOS Updates section of the site.
I'm at a loss. Is anyone able to help please?

    OK, so for anyone else that experiences this problem, eventually all of the above seemed to work- it was just a case of combining them all!
    Somehow the driver must have been uninstalled (or uninstalled by the person that didn't break the screen before xmas!), so downloading this from the Acer site, and then installing the updates was the start.
    I then restarted the laptop and no mouse still.
    Re-started again, but this time pressed F2 whilst booting to get the menu. This time, 'Touchpad' was found under the 'Main' menu (use your arrow keys to toggle across menu's). I then amended this setting from advanced to Basic.
    Restarted again and still no mouse.
    I then tried the Fn + F7 buttons together and hey presto, we have a mouse!
    Good luck- I feel your pain, but hopefully my 2 odd hours research and trial and error will save you some time!
