How to reinstall windows 10 on Acer Aspire R3 series 2 in 1 laptop

First windows 10 tried to install updates which they all failed and said there wasn't enough storage.  I attempted to reset the pc because he was having other issues of installing due to not enough storage.  Upon the attempt to reset the pc it went into a continuous logo restart loop.  I attempted all the troubleshooting techniques through f10 with  no luck.  First there was no restore point created on his pc.  Ran into an error resetting.  Can't go back to previous versions of windows.  I also tried reinstalling and repairing windows by using a flash drive loaded with Rufus and windows 10.  uefi said there was no boot drive for usb boot (I prioritized the usb drive as first in the boot section).  So, I tried putting it in legacy mode which let me start the windows installation process, but there is another obstacle.  When I choose to upgrade it tells me to remove my media installation drive and start windows and reinstall it.  Can't do that cause I can't get to windows as the pc won't go past the logo screen before restarting.  Then I choose custom installation and it won't let me choose or create a drive to install windows in.  I've tried a few things that others have suggested to no avail. my son needs his laptop for school and I do not want to have to purchase another one!!  Thanks in advance if anyone has any fixes or suggestions.

Did you try to do this via the ALT+F10 coldboot reset method outside of Windows? Jack E/NJ

I did alt f10 and tried every option available.  None worked and always said there was a problem or error.

You must set BIOS to UEFI mode. Then make sure D2D recovery is enabled in MAIN. Then retry ALT+F10 eRecovery. Jack E/NJ

How big is your hard disk ? You must have over 10GB free (sometimes hard to do with a 32GB drive) before updates will load.

OK first thing I recommend to people is after initial setup create a recovery disk and a system image file so you can always get back to where you were.

The problem is that people often remove the 1gb recovery partition before taking a system image and then alt-F10 recovery will not work. In that case you will need to purchase the recovery drive from ACER. Or convert it to Linux or Chrome.

This is my ***** noir: have four devices here with 32GB non-upgradable drive. In 2012 that wasn't an issue. Ones running 10-32 are generally not a problem. 10-64 is. OTOH it takes a SME to keep one in tune so that there is over 10GB of free disk space and As Much As Possible must be offfloaded often onto a SD card. Trouble is that most SD card slots are only capable of USB 2.0 speeds.

Now is your error saying "not enough space" or "you need more space" ? If the second then in general adding a 16GB or larger flash drive formatted NTFS will allow Windows to complete.

    Good luck.

I'm not quite sure how many GB are on the drive, but there isn't much.  Maybe 32?  When the upgrades would try to install it would always say that there wasn't enough space.  Then the last time it kept looping through the acer logo and restart.  That's what it still does, it goes to acer logo, says trying to do automatic repair then restarts and goes to f 10 screen for more options.  Not sure how to restore windows to previous state because there's no restore point saved on the laptop and no system image on file.

Also, I did make sure it was D2D enabled and in UEFI mode.  Nothing.

What are the options? Post a screenshot if you can. Jack E/NJ

The problem is how much free space do you have on the C: drive, under 20GB free and updates may be problematic, under 10GB and updates may refuse to run. In the middle often needs an available flash drive.

I created a personal web page (Acer has not blessed and caveat y'all) to help those cursed with 32GB drives and Windows 10 (x86 is bad, 64 is worse). See here.

Make sure the BIOS Main tab has the D2D option enabled. Then try inserting a 16GB NTFS formatted SD card into the SD slot for extra temporary space that might be needed for re-installing Windows. Jack E/NJ

As long as you didn't try to install an operating system on the HDD in legacy mode, you should be OK. Press & hold the power button till the machine shuts off. About 5-10 seconds. Turn the machine back on and immediately start tapping the F2 key to re-enter the BIOS menu to change it back to UEFI bootstrap. Then F10 to save settings and exit. Jack E/NJ

Sorry, your model is incompatible with the current version of Win11.

You can try a factory reset by pressing ALT+F10 at startup. If this doesn't work you must reinstall Win10 by making a USB installation using Microsoft's Win10 USB media creation tool.
