Which format of M.2 drive is compatable with an Aspire GX-281-EB11?

I want to put a SSD in my new computer, and noticed there is a slot for an M.2 drive on the far right of the board. However, details on this seem to be fairly scarce besides that it exists. Could anyone tell me if its sata or a PCI x2 or x4 interface? Be helpful to know before I purchase a wrong drive.

It has an M key M.2 for an SSD.   So you can install M.2 PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4 interface or M.2 SATA 3.0 interface SSD.    2280 size.

From what I can see, the only M.2 SSD that Acer tested was the Intel 600p NVMe M.2.    I'm sure other M.2 drives are compatible, but not sure which ones.  The Intel 600p NVMe doesn't use any special NVMe driver.  It just uses the default builtin Microsoft NVMe driver.  The Intel 600p is just ok.  Not great.  Not sure if the Samsung 960 is compatible but I would think it'll have much better performance than the Intel 600p.

You might need a screw if your M.2 SSD doesn't come with a screw as I don't believe the mainboard has a screw (unless it came PRE-INSTALLED with an M.2 ssd)  https://www.moddiy.com/products/M2.0-x-3mm-Black-Screws-(CM2X3%2d3.3).html

Thank you! The 960 is the drive I was eyeballing yesterday, so this is good news for me hopefully. And thanks as well for reminder for the screw, I probably would have forgotten that one.

Its strange, as yesterday I talked to Acer tech support with that same question and their answer was the GX281 eb11 only supported sata M.2 drives not NVME. World be great to hear from some one who actually tried an mvme drive.

As stated above the slot is an M-key, which typically supports NVMe. The drive they tested is specified by Intel to be: PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4.
