I have Acer Aspire5 A515-41G-1672  laptop and the USB 3.1 ports do not work. I have upgrade bios and drivers, still nothing. I have tried three different devices with three diferent adapters usb C to usb A, and neither works. It looks like there's no power at the Usb C port, not even in BIOS. I've tried some tips I found on the internet without success. I do not see the driver for usb 3.1 in Device Manager. Only for usb 3.0
What can I try more?

Devices without 3.1 certification may not be compatible with either the A or B port. Jack E/NJ

Everywhere it says that the Usb C type backwards is compatible with Usb 3.0 and 2.0...

Yeah, I know. Except for the ACER specsheet below. At this point, I can only suggest trying to get your hands on a certified 3.1 device to test the ports. Jack E/NJ

What is the purpose of such a Usb C port? Which devices it serves?

Its main purpose is to take advantage of higher speeds available from 3.1 devices. Its secondary or maybe even teriary purpose is to be backward compatible with slower devices --- some of which may or may not be compatible.  I think this is why the slower ports are also there.  Jack E/NJ
