Hello, I recently bought an Acer Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop and its having trouble running games when its on battery, when i plug it into the charger it works fine. When I'm not gaming the CPU is at 2.80 Ghz, but as soon as i run a game like Skyrim or Rocket League, the CPU drops to .79 Mhz almost instantly when its on the battery. When its plugged and running a game, it jumps to 3.05 Ghz. The temperatures are fine and ive changed many settings such as power settings, Nvidia Control Panel settings, and the GeForce Experience settings. Ive downloaded the latest BIOS firmware and still, nothing has changed. I know my laptop is more than capable of running rocket league on high but it still runs like garbage because the CPU instantly drops as soon as it starts up a game. Its really ***** me off at this point. Ive searched everywhere on the internet and nothing has helped. I heard it might be 'Frequency Scaling', but i have no idea how to change those settings.

Specs:
Acer Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop
Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.81Ghz
16 GB of DDR4 RAM
GeForce GTX 1050ti
Windows 10

    Hi,
I think it's switching on to Balanced Power plan when you play games in battery only, it may have been designed to preserve the battery, try switching the Power plan to High performance plan.

Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

@brummyfan2 I did that yesterday and it made no difference. Is it some sort of Windows 10 feature that prevents it from going any higher? Because .79 seems to be the lowest it can go. What about frequency scaling? could that be the problem?

Then you have to contact Acer.
