Hi,
My windows is currently forcing security updates every time I use my computer. The problem is that whenever the updates are installed, and my computer reboots it won't go past the "Acer" screen before I get a chance to login. Each time this happens I basically have to force the computer to shut down, and then boot it up afterwards, and it'll tell me that the updates didn't go through.. After a while the whole process starts agian, and I am forced to either shut down the update through the joblist or I'll have to wait for it to finish, then force my computer to shut down, and reboot for it to work.

Therefore, I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this annoying problem?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi,
You can disable automatic windows update but you have to manually update the required updates as they are important for security, follow the method in this link to disable automatic windows updates:https://www.howtogeek.com/224471/how-to-prevent-windows-10-from-automatically-downloading-updates/

    Hi,
    Thank you for answering.
I've read the article you linked, and tried to do what it said, but sadly it didn't fix anything for me. Windows still forces me to update.. :anguished:

The thing is, I don't mind the update, but it simply won't go through. I get stuck at the Acer "loading-screen" on reboot, and can't seem to advance from there...

    Hi,
I'm using the Acer GX 781 Desktop, and I'm not entirely sure, but I believe the update is called: KB4023057

Your computer is compatible with Fall Creators version, so you shouldn't attempt to block it.

    https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/windows10-fall-creators-update

    Backup your important personal files.

Make sure you backup your important personal files and create a USB factory recovery drive before you proceed any further.

    Try the Update Assistant.
If that doesn't help, try the media creation tool.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Ultimately, you may have to reset your computer to factory condition and start over from scratch.

You have to be patient.  If you attempt to force shutdown again, you'll be back in the same boat.

    Hi Jordan,
    Thank you for your answer.

The reason I'm blocking the update is because it didn't work out the 5-10 times I tried already. It always ends up getting stuck at the "ACER" startup screen, and I've even left my computer turned on over night, but it still doesn't advance further. I've even tried resetting everything like you suggested, sadly the result seems to be the same; It gets stuck at the ACER startup screen :(.

    1. Create a USB factory recovery drive.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfKn87nk0F4
    2. Backup your important personal files.
    3. Go in to your BIOS settings and enable the F12 boot menu.
    4. Boot the USB factory recovery drive that you created in step 1 by tapping the F12 key at the Acer boot logo screen.
    5. Use your USB to reset the PC to factory condition and start over.
    6. Keep your PC on and within 24 hours it should be asking you to upgrade again to fall creator.

I'm actually in your same boat, I keep snoozing the update because if it tried it gets stuck on the Acer logo.

    1. Create a USB factory recovery drive.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfKn87nk0F4

    2.  Backup your important personal files.

    3. Go in to your BIOS settings and load the defaults (F9) and then save/exit (F10)

    4. Go back in to your BIOS settings and enable the F12 boot menu and then save/exit

    5.  Boot the USB factory recovery drive by tapping the F12 key at the Acer post/boot logo

    6.  Select Troubleshoot>>Advanced>>Command Prompt

    7. At the command prompt, type

    diskpart
    list disk
select disk x   (x=your main hard drive where windows is installed) this will wipe your main HDD/SSD--be careful, don't select the wrong disk number
    clean
    exit
    exit

    8. Navigate in the menu to shutdown your computer......and shutdown your computer.

    9.  Turn on your computer and reset your PC

    10.  After your computer is reset to factory condition, check Windows Update everyday for the latest update.

If the above doesn't work, then I would suggest that you contact Acer or Microsoft.

    http://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/

Note: When your computer is updated to the latest Windows 10 and stable, you'll need to update your BIOS to the latest.  The instructions are in the Appendix folder for the GX-781 (Win Flash Utility SOP).  I would recommend waiting until after your computer is updated and working properly before you attempt to update BIOS.  https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers
