Hello Acer Community. My concern is, my laptop temperature reaches 80°C-90°C when playing games like Dota2. Is it good or bad? What is the max temperature of this laptop? Thank you.

  • Hi,
High temperatures are normal while gaming, your CPU can withstand up to 100°C, even if it reaches 100°C it won't damage anything and it will simply switch off, if you are too concerned, you could try undervolting with Throttlestop or repasting (this may void warranty).

I just replace the thermal paste with deepcool Z5 and also replaced he thermal pads. Next time I'll also buy the vacuum cooler. I'll open the link you mention. Further question, what is that undervolting? Never heard or seen about that.

Undervolting the CPU means reducing the voltage. By reducing the voltage, you reduce the amount of power the CPU draws and therefore the amount of heat generated is also reduced. Usually Intel CPU's are set to work on 1.3V, which can be reduced to 1.2V or even lower(depending on the CPU), without affecting performance.

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Is Throttlestop this good for my laptop? My processor is core i5-4200M and GT 750M. Is it easy to use?

You need to run a CPU stress test at the background while undervolting. Start with reducing the voltage by -100mV and keep reducing by 5mV until the system crushes. Reboot and set the voltage to the last one the system was stable on. If -100mV is too low begin by setting it to -50mV. It is a process of trial and error. Your aim is to set the voltage as low as possible without crushing the system.
