Making sure I buy a compatible SSD

Hi all.

I'm planning to buy an SSD to use as a boot drive alongside the existing 1TB HD in my Aspire a515.

I know it needs to be m.2 (unfortunately, as these seem much more expensive and harder to find!) and SATA III.
Someone mentioned that I should also be careful of the size. The model I've found is 2280 - anyone know if that will fit ok? Or how I can check (short of opening up the laptop to check)?

Any other specifications I need to be aware of before buying?

Also interested to hear any thoughts about whether there's any risk in buying the cheapest one I can find. Is there much difference (e.g. speed, reliability, or other) between different models/brands of m.2 SSD?
