Acer Aspire VN7-791G-78ZM

My laptop charger was damaged, but I plugged it into my laptop and then the wall. (Yes I know this was very stupid). The charger sparked and smoked and damaged other electronics plugged into the same outlet and even electrocuted my wife! Bought a new charger from Acer, but the laptop won't register the charger. It is the correct charger (same model number as original charger). Laptop turns on and works fine, but the battery is not charging. The battery seems fine as well. The computer ran for about an hour while I backed up all my data before the battery died. Is it possible the charger port got damaged in the power surge somehow? Is there any way to fix this?

You can try with battery reset. Follow the steps given here: https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/34843/~/acer-internal-battery-reset
After reseting the battery, leave the laptop for 30minutes, before plugging it to charger and powering it on.

If it doesn't help you should contact Acer in your region.

If you didn't plug the charger to laptop first, before plugging it to the power, only the charger would have died probably. It isn't your fault, because it was a failure of the surge protection. If it still has warranty left don't hesitate to contact Acer and request a repair.

Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.
