Screen not turning on Predator G9-951-71HP

Hello everyone,

Yesterday evening I got a systemupdate that needed installing. I did this and the computer didn’t react at all anymore. After about an hour of looking at the same screen, I unplugged it and (as it has a build in battery) put a paperclip in the little hole at the bottom of the laptop to “reset” battery power.

The computer theb schut off immediately. When turniny it back on, everything started (lights all over the computer) but the screen stays black (not turninh on at all, like it has no power).

I’ve tried a lot of different ways to solve it, but I have no clue anymore.

Anyone that has any idea on how this can be fixed or what the problem might be?

I try to call tech support and the chat on their website, basically they told me they will not repair or give any kind of support to equipment out of warranty, the guy that call me even ask me to take it to a best buy for a diagnose, I was like really? worst support ever, I think I am driving to san jose HQ is not far from home, at least I can trow this piece of garbage in their parking lot.

OK here is the **** tech support from acer, they going to charge me 399 dollars case 4947403U plus shipping to send it to their repair center in

because my warranty according to their system shows I am out of warranty Dec 31 2015 but the manufacturing date printed on my laptop is 11/21/2015 mmm kind of strange, I run out of warranty 1 month after manufacturing nice.....
I buy it from amazon a year ago and I understand is out of warranty after 1 year, but this is BS is not like I trow my computer out the window or in to the pool and now I am going crazy about a warranty that does not exist, this is just BS from Acer to not give any kind of support, is this windows BS? I dont think so either some one screw up the update and now we are stock with a 2000 dollars bricks.

I deffinetly consulting a lawyer for this.

Hi, you can try to do a BIOS recovery.

Here's the procedure for a Predator G9-591:

First of all, download the following file (BIOS 1.11 with the correct recovery name): drive.google.com/file/d/1zsz6F6HonvnlDbOJMHi6OzpncW4GkwFX/view
Then, do the following steps:

1. Copy the BIOS file to an empty and with FAT16/32 formatted usb stick.
2. Unplug the AC adapter.
3. Plug in the USB flash disk.
4. Press and hold <Fn> and <Esc>, and then plug in the AC adapter while still holding <Fn> and <Esc>.
5. Press the Power button. You can now stop holding <Fn> and <Esc>.
6. The BIOS flash should now begin, the fan will spin up and the power led should change its state.
7. After everything is done, the notebook will shut down.

In case you have another model, please post your model here, so I can have a look.

I had the same issues as the o.p. I went on chat support, they advised I send the unit in for repair after trying a battery cycle. Unfortunately I already sent my unit in before I could find the correct BIOS to flash. The Acer Support website only has the .exe file that would normally load from windows. Thanks to the above poster if that is indeed the correct file.
Also, I have a G9-591, and the warranty period is 2 years for the unit that I bought on Amazon (which I got in 2 days with free Prime shipping vs the Acer website charge and 5-7 business day wait).

I'm mostly **** that an Acer pushed BIOS update bricked my machine and I have to pay for the shipping AT ALL. They did tell me that they would pay for the return shipping. It wasn't cheap, shipping FedEx Ground with insurance cost me $58.53. There has to be some way to push this issue up the ladder so that this issue is completely taken care of by Acer. It would have been nice if they would have sent me the correct BIOS file to try flashing myself, but when I asked the service guy, he told me I could not do it myself and they needed to fix my machine.

So I'm out a computer for 2 weeks minimum with the Holiday and all, and $58. What a pain in the ****, Acer. I'm wondering how the service guys at Dell or ASUS would have handled this situation. Anyone had any experience over there?

Thanks msmith123 you save me 400 dollars, the procedure works at the first attempt, and by the way ,what do I found onces it start again?, yes a nice and beautifull windows **** installing window, nice going Acer 64gb of ram, 2 tb of ssd and 4 of regular HD of garbage, really this is like the worst possible screw up, hope somebody get fire, and definetly this will be my last Acer machine ever, I dont even going to use this piece of **** any more for real work, I just going to give it to my 6 year old.

I have an Aspire R14 and this happened to me too. Will the same file work for me to recover my bios?

Wow glad to see there is a fix. sucks for me since i just sended my laptop to them... not knowing how long it will be gone and if they will charge me somthing now, even to it is still in warranty. How can acer customer support not know this and tell me straight away....

When I talked to Mark in CA I think they are reluctant to give out the old style of bias flashing method to the public for untrained people. Also the newer method has more checks and balances during the flashing.

Hallo,
thanks for good information, but I could not fix the problem, wether with BOIS 1.11 nor BIOS 1.10.
Some questions to be sure I do all right.
Filename of the downloaded file is P5P7NCN.fd ?
Put it as it is on the empty USB-Drive (no Unzipping or something)?
USB-Drive of 2GB shows FAT under properties, should be ok?
Is it important, wich USB-Port I take?

Because, when I use the port left next to charge input, after pressing Shift + Escape and switch on, only the power LED lights (red). Leaving the buttons, after a second the charging LED starts to light too (orange). Using USB on right side, charging LED starts to light together with power LED.
USB-drive has also a LED. This is only flashing short, like above mentioned periodically after 60 to 80 seconds. Should it be on permanently during the bios-update?

Ok, good news, updated worked, machine is working well. Thanks to the good description.
The reason, because it did not work could be the USB-drive. I used another one and it worked at the first try. This has no status LED. But on the laptop you can see, if the update is running. Power LED and the ON/OFF-Button are flashing during update operation. If it is not starting they are permanently on. Maybe this helps somebody.
