A client of mine asked me to handle this laptop for him, although it is over five years old.

The hard drive was dying and he had never made recovery disks, but I got the data he needed backed up.

I ordered and received the specific recovery disks and installed a new hard drive.

The recovery disks come up with the error stating the BIOS has to be set to UEFI.

After changing the BIOS to allow me to boot to a linux USB drive to get the data, I cannot get it to go back to UEFI.

I have tried every known method I came across in searches:
-pressing F2 at the splash screen
-pressing FN+F2 at the splash screen
-pressing DEL
-pressing F2, holding and pressing the POWER
-pressing F10
-pressing F12
-shorting the specific jumper under the RAM

I have not tried dropping, folding, spindling or mutilating it, though I came close.

I tried installing Windows 7 and that was successful except that Acer has NO drivers for the OS - I was hoping that once an OS was installed, it would lose the PXE boot loop cycle.
The battery is also dead and I did order him a new battery so I can try doing an upgrade on the BIOS with the hope that perhaps it will go back to UEFI and I can load the recovery disks for Win 8.

Any suggestions are welcome.
