How do you feel about your purchase? I am kind of stuck myself with looking at all the new techs out there. I was hoping for the following specs:

Under $2,000:

GTX1070

i7 7700HQ 8GB VRAM (Smart Cache if possible/L-cache)

17" IPS panel (75-120hz) w/G-sync .... the 79v5 only has 60 hz now Smiley Sad and others are either 120hzNT or this strange Wide-View IPS-equlvilent (sounds a lot like VA panels).

Something durable that maintains temps and can also do design work, besides gaming.

16GB RAM

Possibly a CD/DVD RW-drive.

NVMe if possible.

Under $2,000

Does anyone have any regrets or success stories? It is either this or I go back to Excel and keep working on my cross-comparison, which has lead me to some ASUS ROGs (ASUS ROG STRIX GL702VS and ROG G752VT and ROG GL702VS), a Gigabyte P57X V7, some MSIs (MSI GE72VR and GT72VR DOMINATOR PRO and GT72VR DOMINATOR PRO DRAGON), and some Clevos (PA71HS-G and NP8372).

Anyways, I put my criteria in order of importance, but can't seem to come to a decision. This laptop and the ASUS Strix GL702VS seem to be the best matches. It is a tradeoff. The ASUS has a 120hz panel similar to IPS, but not quite IPS (called Wide View). Not sure what this is, but I want a good refresh rate and want good color reproduction. I don't want to go with this faux IPS if it is not good, yet want a good refresh rate. The trade for the 120hz is not only the IPS knockoff is that it doesn't have a DVD-RW drive. There are downsides for each of these and I don't want to follow most of the reviews, as most are paid to push the ASUS laptops. It is really hard comparing laptops, as most manufacturers don't tell their complete spec list (like 60hz not being listed for this one) and because of these paid reviews. I just want a sturdy laptop that can game with the best and do design work. There are good reviews of this laptop out there (versions varying), but there are also reports of the RAID SSDs having issues, the screen flickering when brightness is down (unsure if this is the same as a Windows 10 issue I came across), and also overheating issues, due to bad thermal paste. Any suggestions? Comments? Anything that will help me make up my mind?
