i just got this laptop for my niece, is used and got it very cheap, the mousepad fails sometimes but it says a bios update could fix it, but it was kinda slow in perfomance, so i installed a windows 8.1 32x instead of the win 10 that it had and upgraded the ram stick to 4GB, but the system only uses 2 gb, why is that?, i thought the max ram in 32 bits is 4 or 3.5 gb.

OH and someone can tell me if i have to install all BIOS updates, if so, in what order?, if not, only the 1.7?

"Depending on what you utilize the computer for, you may or may not see any benefit to the extra RAM at all.  It certainly won't hurt to have 4GB and it probably is not all that expensive to go that high.  Your best bet - depending on whether you can or cannot - would be to upgrade to a 64-bit Windows OS (it would be a clean install - but probably worth it if you feel you can utilize 4GB of memory to its fullest - where most computer users will seldom top 2.5GB.)"

keep in mind that part of ram is shared with the GPU so, it's not available.

about BIOS/touchpad, the fix is not a BIOS but a touchpad firmware; it's a completly different thing.

    to check your BIOS version:

    windows logo + r key

    type

    msinfo32

    check BIOS DATE/Version string.

the table show that i can use up to 4GB, and the system says 4gb( 1.98GB usable), its not going to use 2gb of video right?.

now the touchpad firmware yeah, i found it, and i try to install it, but it cant because its 64 bits, so game over.

so i will install a 64 bits now, thanks for the help, i was trying a very LITE version of windows, but if no 4 gb and no touchpad, no reason to continue.
