Hi everybody.

I just bought an Acer F5-573G with Linux Linpus preinstalled. As I know next to nothing about computers I would kindly appreciate any kind of help. So, here is the thing - my new laptop has two drives, one is 1Tb HDD and the other 128Gb SSD. I am not sure on which of those two Linpus is installed. I would like to install Windows 10 on SSD. If Linpus is on HDD I would prefer to keep it there as I read on this forums that I might be asked by Acer to install it again in case I erase it and demand warranty activation thereafter. What I need is a step by step walkthrough of Windows 10 installation. Is there a way of finding out on which drive is linpus save for removing one of drives. Ideally, Windows 10 would be installed on SSD and linpus on HDD.

as far as i know, Linpus is Installed on SSD.

about steps to install windows 10:

    1) download a windows 10 iso using Microsof tool:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209
select the proper windows 10 version (the same installed on your laptop) and choose to save it as iso file when prompted
    2) download Rufus:
    http://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US
plug your USB flash drive, run Rufus then:
select ISO image from the dropdown menu near "Create a bootable disk"
click on the little icon on the right and browse to the windows 10 downloaded iso file
as Partitions scheme select "GPT partition scheme for UEFI"
    as File system select "FAT32"
    click on Start
wait until it finish, then uplug your USB flash drive
    3) backup all your personal data
    4) Reboot to BIOS, pressing F2 at boot, then press F9 to load default and F10 to save and exit
    5) plug your USB flash drive and at boot press F12 (if F12 doesn't work, see if it auto-recognise the USB flash drive or press F2 to enter BIOS and enable F12 boot menu under BOOT tab), choose the USB flash drive as bootable device
    6) once at language/keyboard selection, press shift+F10, a command prompt will open
    7) type
    Diskpart
    list disk
select disk x (x is the number of your SSD)
    clean all      (be patient)
    convert GPT
    exit
exit again to close command prompt
    8) proceed with windows 10 installation

Thank you for your answer. So, does this mean Linpus will be erased? There is no OS other than Linpus on computer right now. How can I know Windows will be installed on SSD? How would I go about installing Windows on SSD while keeping Linpus on SSD too?

yes, Linpus will be erased, not a big lost Smiley Happy

simply you select the target drive where to install windows during installation.

you need to do a dual boot enviroment, shrinking the Linpus partition and having the rest of SSD not assigned, here you can install windows 10.

honestly i never heard of users having a dual boot with Linpus in this community, not worth...i can understand a dual boot OS with Lubuntu/Ubuntu and windows 10.

Should I follow your instructions in case I put windows iso on a dvd?

nope, the instructions are only for USB flash drive and i suggest you to use an USB flash drive, since the installation will be a lot faster.

I am stuck at 5) enable F12 boot menu under BOOT tab
Only thing I can do in boot tab is change boot priority order and change boot mode

Ignore previous post, I just enabled F12 Boot Menu under tab MAIN.

Disk0 is the HDD, so...not if you have personal files inside.

by the way is seems full, very strange.

Yes, very strange indeed considering it has never been used before.

don't do the clean command on it, so you can check it once windows is installed on the SSD.

I installed windows. However Windows now does not detect HDD, only SSD.

Unfortunately I did not see your previous post in time so I ran clean all and convert gpt commands on HDD before installing windows. After that it showed completely free (before installing windows).

Open disk management in windows, you will find your HDD, right click on the unallocated storage and click on format.

    That's it.
