It depends whether you want founder's edition or a 'gaming' one from Asus, MSI etc.

If it is a founder's edition GTX 1050ti doesn't need any external power and GTX 960 requires external power(6 pin from the PSU to the GPU). If you want to buy an overclocked version then GTX 1050ti will require a 6pin connection and GTX 960 8pin in order to feed it with enough power. Pretty much this is what you need to know plus you will have to know whether they fit in your case before buying.

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Forgot to add: Low profile GTX 1050ti doesn't require external power.

And would also contact Acer and ask them what is the power output of the PCI-E x16(x8) as it usually is 75W but some manufacturers limit it to less for unknown reason.

But do you think it will work because some people are saying that new graphic cards don't work

It should work. Can you please download HWiNFO and on the left side find 'Bus' then click on the '+' and then PCI Bus>Intel xxxxxxx(x-es means something is written which differs from system to system. For example it can be 'haswell')- PCI Express x16 Controller. When you click on it on the right side you will see info about the Pcie. You should look at slot power limit(in watts) report the value written there.

I don't see why GTX 1050Ti wouldn't work on your system. The GPU is independent from the other components. It should run with no problems considering that you can provide it with enough power.

As I said the power consuption of the GTX 1050Ti(low profile) is 75W so if the PCIe slot provides 75W then there is not a reason for the GPU not to run on your PC.

Nvidia GT 740 consumes 64W so probably the power output of the PCI-E is 75w.
    GTX 1050ti consumes 75W.

Both graphics cards are 75W and both will run without external power.
