Problems opening new tabs

I own an Acer A510 Tablet. How do I close tabs.  I sometimes get a notification that the maximum number of tabs is open and it will not allow me to open another tab until one is closed.  I have tried closing all tabs and it still will not allow me to open a new tab.  How do I properly close tabs?

If we are speaking of the browser, you will want to tap the layered white button on the top of the browser.

That shows you the tabs.  Close the ones you no longer need open.

Thanks for your reply.  We know how to open and delete tabs.  However, there are times when the machine states that the maximum number of tabs have been used and it will not allow us to select a new tap. It says that I must close a tab before I open a new one.  We have then closed all tabs and at times it still will not allow a new tab to be set. The number of maximum tabs seems to vary.  After awhile it clears up on its own, mysteriously and we can set a new tab.  What can we do when that happens?

It is very likely related to cache space and how much data you have attached to each tab.  Some websites will download and store more data than others.
