Hello,

I have the CB5-312T (R 13) which is ARM based as well as CP5-471 (14 for Work) which is Intel based.

The issue is on the CB5-312T ARM based model, specifically it seems unable to power USB 3.0 cameras. I have tested this with 2 different USB 3.0 cameras and the results are the same. The Chromebook will become slow and eventually crash.

If I plug the cameras in using USB 2.0 they both will work fine.

Is this a known issue for ARM-based models?

    Hi

There are 2 main differences between USB 2 & 3.  Speed and power.

Power is greater thru USB3 as is speed, so it should be the best solution.

So if it is not, then let's consider possibilities...

The power drawn thru Hub 3 is too great for the machine, the chipset on the board is inadequate.

Speed is so high that the amount of data overwhelms the CPU or chipset etc.

The 8 pin configuration is defective, and the 4 pins for USB 2 are not damaged etc.

Do the cameras work as USB3 on another PC properly?

The cameras are working on every PC or Mac and have always worked. However, I have tested this on two more Chromebooks, an Asus (Intel based) and a Samsung (ARM based). I am seeing the same on the Samsung Chromebook. This led me to believe that it might be a known issue for ARM-based Chromebooks.

If I specifically start the camera on 720p 30fps with USB 2.0, I get no issue, but if I open the very same resolution and framerate with USB 3.0, it will crash.
