I have Acer Aspire E15 E5-553 laptop which has two memory slots with DDR4 2GB memory each. I have replaced one memory with crucial DDR4 4GB 2133 MHz  1.2V laptop ram. I could not able to find original RAMs specifications. However, Total memory shown in bios is 6GB.

But when I see ram information in control panel of the windows 10 it is showing that 2GB is in use out of 6 GB. When I switch the rams slots it shows 4GB ram in use out of 6 GB. I have used windows memory diagnostic tool which did not show any error.

Is it because the two RAMs are not compatible? If so, if I buy another RAM of same specification (8GB DDR4 2133 MHz and 1.2V) will it be compatible with crucial RAM for sure so that my total memory be 12 GB? Appreciate your help.

FYI, my laptop model does not have the advanced setting in bios.

Original RAM - hma425s6afr6n - TF(SK hynix):

  • Power Supply: VDD=1.2V (1.14V to 1.26V)

  • VPP - 2.5V (2.375V to 2.75V)
  • VDDSPD=2.25V to 3.6V
  • Speed - 2133

Upgraded RAM: CT4G4SFS8213 (Crucial)

DDR4 PC4-17000 • CL=15 • Single Ranked • x8 based • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR4-2133 • 1.2V • 512Meg x 64

    Hi,

What are the specs of the original RAM(2GB modules)? Could you be able to see the whole memory used when you had 2x2GB?

I have added the RAMs specifications in the main question. I guess both are having a similar configuration.

I have used two original RAMs of 2GB which shows full 4 GB memory usable.

    Hi,

Check whether you have a 32bit OS.

    Hi

    As suggested above...

A 32 bit Operating system can/will only address 4 Gb.

It would seem that the RAM specs are different, and I would remove the 4 Gb ram and run only 2 Gb, visit Crucial and Kingston and get upgrade options.  Then repeat with the 4Gb stick fitted.

NB: You have 1 empty slot when doing the above.

Then install Piriform Speccy and you can fit both sticks, the full 6Gb and look at the results...

    Operating System
        Windows 10 Home 64-bit
        Computer type: Notebook
        Installation Date: 02/08/2017 16:19:39
        Serial Number:

    Memory
        Type    DDR3
        Size    8192 MBytes
        Channels #    Single
        DRAM Frequency    798.4 MHz

and from all of that it should be clear what can be achieved.

    If in doubt please ask.
